Self States, 2018-22

Self States is a tender and raw exploration of the shifting identities formed through the experience of creating—and losing—life. Through intimate portraits, figures, and baby forms, the series traces the emotional terrain of conception, longing, and miscarriage.

Each drawing captures a moment of becoming or unraveling, where the boundaries of self blur with the presence of another—real, imagined, or lost. The figures are not fixed but fluid, echoing the inner states of hope, grief, and the silent ache of absence.

Rooted in deeply personal experience, Self States gives visual form to the often unspoken emotions surrounding fertility and loss. It is a quiet witnessing of transformation, rupture, and the tender persistence of love in the face of impermanence.
